Cult Poster: American Horror Story Blue lady

Monday, 30 April 2018

Disclaimer, I edited this photo a lotttt on Photoshop, but all the SFX is real.

I used an oil-based clay to make the mould of the circles and covered it in about 3 layers of latex. Once it was dry, I peeled it off (using powder so it doesn't stick to itself) and used blue face paint for the first layer. I then used a darker blue and white for highlights and shadows.

I then used a mix of spirit gum, liquid latex and tissue to attach the prosthetics to the models face. I then painted her face and neck blue, using dark blue for contours and white for highlights. She then popped on a blue wig and I stuck a dead wasp to her nose (a true friend). I photoshopped the eyes and part of her lip from the actual American Horror Story poster.

Cult Poster: American Horror Story Beehive SFX

Thursday, 11 January 2018

By taking inspiration from madeyewlook and the poster from American Horror Story Cult I created a beehive using model magic.

I first created the beehive on a polystyrene head using model magic. I made the hexagon shapes by using a piece of cardboard glued to the end of a pencil. After waiting a few days to let the clay dry, I painted the beehive by using acrylic and alcohol activated paints.

I used a bald-cap on my model, and blended the sides with tissue, glue and latex (as this cap was from poundland, it look a while to blend). I then used white face-paint and eyeshadow to create the makeup look.

Finally, I added a coat of gloss, some real honey to drip down, and a dead bee.

A massive thank you to Bobbie for letting me drip honey down her face and have a dead bee on her head :)

Twisty: American Horror Story Mask SFX

Wednesday, 6 September 2017

1) Cut out a mouth-like shape from cardboard, and cover with latex and cotton wool for texture.
2) Use layers of cotton and latex to build up the gums
3) Use fake nails (preferably white) as the teeth, and insert them into the cotton while it's still wet (size all the nails in order beforehand)
4) Round off the tops of the teeth (nearest to the gum) and create the lines of the gums
5) Position the mask onto a respiration mask to strengthen and to make it more comfortable to wear (could also hole punch holes and use string instead) Cut parts of the mask if need be
6) Cover the rest of the mask with cotton and latex for texture
7) Use black and dark red paint behind the teeth
8) Use a mixture of reds and browns for the gums (I used alcohol activated paints for this)
9) Paint the teeth white (if not already) and add yellow, reds and browns to discolour
10) Darken any lines with black (make sure theres no harsh lines) and fade black all around the edges
11) Use scab blood around and the at the back of the teeth
12) Flick (with an old toothbrush or paintbrush) and dab (with a sponge) fake blood all around the mouth (tap the blood if it looks too harsh)
13) Use gloss varnish all over the mask when it's dry
TIP
-Measure the size of the mouth before you start making, as mine is far too big for my face
