Like everyone else recently, I've been slightly obsessed with the HUJI app, these are just a few photos I've taken over the last few days :)

Cult Poster: American Horror Story Blue lady

Monday 30 April 2018

Disclaimer, I edited this photo a lotttt on Photoshop, but all the SFX is real.

I used an oil-based clay to make the mould of the circles and covered it in about 3 layers of latex. Once it was dry, I peeled it off (using powder so it doesn't stick to itself) and used blue face paint for the first layer. I then used a darker blue and white for highlights and shadows.

I then used a mix of spirit gum, liquid latex and tissue to attach the prosthetics to the models face. I then painted her face and neck blue, using dark blue for contours and white for highlights. She then popped on a blue wig and I stuck a dead wasp to her nose (a true friend). I photoshopped the eyes and part of her lip from the actual American Horror Story poster.

Washed up SFX

Wednesday 25 April 2018

This piece was completely inspired by Jordan Hanz's Mermaid Siren video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Gdef_evAN0

I used model magic, acrylic paint, face paint, spirit gum, liquid latex and fake moss.

To get the different indents of the coral I used the backs of different pens and pencils, anything to get texture. I painted each one differently as well as using different heights and shapes for each, to make sure they look nothing alike. I wanted the whole piece to be really bright as I tend to lean towards darker SFX. Hope you like it :)

Written Universe Poems explained (1)

Saturday 3 February 2018

Written Universe will be a poetry book I am planning to publish this year (2018). I've been posted teasers of the poems on @writtenuniverse on Instagram. Here are a few of the poems explained as I've never explained any before, I hope you enjoy :)

This poem is talking about mental illness and the reality of it. Even though it cannot be seen, it doesn't make it less real. Personally, I haven't dealt with mental illness, but I have close friends who have, and making it less of a taboo subject is always a step forward in understanding it.

This poem's inspiration came from the old saying about burning witches to the ground. It's not necessarily to do with witches, and more to do with the feminist movement, or any other movement in fact. Anything that other people put you down for, for not complying with their set ways, and just generally talking about to stand up for what you believe in.

I wanted to use velvet curtains to imply that the people who are against the witches believe to be a higher class of the witches, and look down on them.

This poem is about the love I have for the stars, and always looking up at them when I should probably be asleep, the rest is quite self explanatory.

This poem isn't specially about someone I know, which believe it or not, most of my poems are about no-one.

Cult Poster: American Horror Story Beehive SFX

By taking inspiration from madeyewlook and the poster from American Horror Story Cult I created a beehive using model magic.

I first created the beehive on a polystyrene head using model magic. I made the hexagon shapes by using a piece of cardboard glued to the end of a pencil. After waiting a few days to let the clay dry, I painted the beehive by using acrylic and alcohol activated paints.

I used a bald-cap on my model, and blended the sides with tissue, glue and latex (as this cap was from poundland, it look a while to blend). I then used white face-paint and eyeshadow to create the makeup look.

Finally, I added a coat of gloss, some real honey to drip down, and a dead bee.

A massive thank you to Bobbie for letting me drip honey down her face and have a dead bee on her head :)
